Bank of the James opened for business in July 1999.  Since then, we’ve grown from a new bank with 12 employees and one location to a local regional bank with multiple offices covering much of Virginia, over 150 employees, and a reputation in the communities we serve as a trusted bank and a reliable community partner.

Our office is located on Main Street in downtown Altavista. After your appointment, you can grab a bite to eat at one of our favorite spots, Chef’s Drive-In for an authentic southern diner experience. A little further down the road, you can pick up a slice of pizza from Peace of Pie, or grab a cup of coffee from Main Street Cafe.
