Bank of the James opened for business in July 1999. Since then, we’ve grown from a new bank with 12 employees and one location to a local regional bank with multiple offices covering much of Virginia, over 150 employees, and a reputation in the communities we serve as a trusted bank and a reliable community partner.
We want to take time to acknowledge our customers and say thank you. We are grateful for each of you who has trusted Bank of the James to be their bank of choice. As national banks are merging or leaving our local communities, Bank of the James is here to serve you. If you are looking for a new banking relationship, we would love to meet you. Call us or stop by the Amherst Office and meet our bankers. We look forward to seeing you.
As a local bank, we understand that community is important, especially to a small town like Amherst. When you walk through the doors of our main office in Amherst, we want you to feel welcomed and at home. Our office is located on Main Street in downtown Amherst. Our Amherst staff members can assist you with any of your banking needs, including mortgages, personal banking, business banking, loan solutions, and more.
Amherst County is home to the beloved Rebec Winery, host of the Virginia Wine & Garlic festival. During the fall season, you can pick your own apples at two unique orchards, Morris Orchard or Rock Hill Orchard. At Bank of the James, we cultivate a friendly attitude and charming atmosphere reminiscent of our surrounding Amherst community.
