Bank of the James opened for business in July 1999.  Since then, we’ve grown from a new bank with 12 employees and one location to a local regional bank with multiple offices covering much of Virginia, over 150 employees, and a reputation in the communities we serve as a trusted bank and a reliable community partner.

As a local bank, we understand that community is important. When you walk through the doors of our main office in Lynchburg, we want you to feel welcomed and at home. Our office is located on Main Street in downtown Lynchburg in one of the tallest buildings in the city. Our Lynchburg staff members can assist you with any of your banking needs, including mortgages, personal banking, business banking, loan solutions, and more. 

Downtown Lynchburg is the heart of our community. After your appointment, you can grab a bite to eat at a number of incredible restaurants. Some of our favorite local Lynchburg gems are RA Bistro, Jimmy’s on the James and The Depot Grille. A little further down the road, you can pick up a taco or two from El Jefe, or grab a cup of coffee from the White Hart. One of the best times to visit the downtown area is on Wednesday or Saturday, when the Lynchburg Community Market is bustling with business. Main Street Closure

As part of Lynchburg’s Main Street Renewal project, Main Street is blocked between 8^th and 9^th Streets. However, the bank parking deck is still accessible, and there is still easy access to our Main Street lobby. Please click below for more information about street closures.
