Bank of the James opened for business in July 1999.  Since then, we’ve grown from a new bank with 12 employees and one location to a local regional bank with multiple offices covering much of Virginia, over 150 employees, and a reputation in the communities we serve as a trusted bank and a reliable community partner. 

We want to take time to acknowledge our customers and say “thank you”. Our Roanoke Valley customers, and the community at large, are responsible for our success. Promenade Park was the first office located in Roanoke, and we are happy to announce we now have a second branch located in Oak Grove. Bank of the James opened our first office in Roanoke in February 2017 in the Promenade Park Shopping Center.  In June of 2019, we opened a second office in the Oak Grove community in Roanoke.

Roanoke is a charming small city nestled in the heart of central Virginia. Our Promenade Park office is located a little further out from the city. Downtown Roanoke is only 10 minutes away, where you’ll find a variety of fantastic restaurants and entertainment. After your appointment, stop by the Taubman Museum of Art, or grab a bite to eat downtown at local favorite Cedars.
