Mr. Umberger became associated with Bank of the James in 2001 as a Vice President and Commercial Lender. In 2003 he was promoted to Senior Vice President and Senior Credit Officer for the bank and in 2007 was named Executive Vice President and Senior Credit Officer. He is responsible for the company’s loan policies and practices including credit quality. Prior to joining Bank of the James, Mr. Umberger was associated with Sovran Bank. Mr. Umberger has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampden-Sydney College with majors in both Economics and Spanish. He is also a 2000 graduate of the Virginia Banker’s School (VBA) of Bank Management.
