Robert R. Chapman III

In his capacity as CEO, Mr. Chapman is responsible for the strategic direction and the day-to-day management of the bank. Mr. Chapman was instrumental in forming Bank of the James in 1999 (co-organizer); was named President of Bank of the James in 2003 and President of Bank of the James Financial Group in 2004. Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Chapman was Vice President and Commercial Account Manager at Crestar Bank for 15 years. He is a 1984 graduate of Virginia Military Institute where he received a bachelor’s degree in Economics. Following graduation, he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Mr. Chapman is also a 2002 graduate of the American Bankers Association (ABA) Stonier Graduate School of Banking. Active in the community, Mr. Chapman currently serves as a board member for the Centra Foundation and the VMI Keydet Club.
