Community Giving

Proudly Investing In Our Community

Since its inception in 1999, Bank of the James has maintained a strong commitment to investing in the future of the community by supporting and serving numerous charitable and civic organizations throughout our service areas.

As a community-minded bank, Bank of the James’ contribution efforts are focused on the areas of youth enrichment and education, health and human services as well as arts and culture. We support programs which make an impact on the health and safety of our youth; programs that foster academic achievement and scholarships for our students; community based arts organizations that lend to our diversity and culture; and organizations that promote wellness, stability and growth, particularly those benefiting low-to-moderate income individuals. In addition, we support organizations which promote economic development and organizations which promote a positive climate for businesses without our communities.

Providing financial support is only part of the story. Through the dedication of time and talent by our Bank of the James employees to numerous community organizations, we are working hand-in-hand to build a brighter tomorrow. From serving at a local soup kitchen to painting fences and planting trees, Bank of the James employees are volunteering their time to organizations throughout our communities. Our employees donated supplies and backpacks for area schools to give to students who could not afford them; gave gifts during Christmas to support a local mission, collected food and clothing for local organizations and provided snacks for a summer camp program. Many of our teammates volunteer as board and committee members for numerous non-profits and provide guidance and support.

Last year, our bank contributed to over 200 local organizations and non-profits through donations and sponsorships. Some of the organizations we donate to are Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, HumanKind, Rush Homes, Habitat for Humanity, CASA of Central Virginia, YWCA, YMCA, Camp Kum Ba Yah, The Daily Bread, The Jubilee Center, Alzheimer’s Association, The United Way, The Christmas Station, The Academy Center of the Arts, D-Day Memorial and many more.

At heart, we are a community bank and are proud to invest in the communities we serve.

The Lynchburg Daily Bread serves a hot, nutritious meal to those who need it every day of the year. Volunteers from the greater Lynchburg community prepare, cook, and serve the meals, which are provided to the homeless and hungry of our community. Each recipient is seated and served by a caring volunteers. Thank you to our many Bank of the James employees who have volunteered at the Lynchburg Daily Bread. Our work at the Daily Bread is very meaningful and we love to volunteer with this organization.

Bank of the James is proud to be the title sponsor of the Virginia 4 Miler, part of the Virginia 10 Miler race weekend. Each year, many of our employees participate in the various events of the weekend, bringing the community together.

Founded in 1999, the Jubilee Family Development Center supports at-risk youth and their families by providing high-quality academic, athletic, and occupational programs that foster personal, social, and spiritual growth.
