Fun Soap Box Derby in Harrisonburg helps children learn applied math and science skills

Bank of the James recently supported the Harrisonburg Soap Box Derby benefitting Rockingham County’s Rotary Club by providing volunteers and sponsorship. Children and youth starting at age 7 gathered at this fun derby day, where they learned applied science and math skills, collaborated with others and developed strong team building skills, and created a bonding experience that will contribute to lifelong memories. 

Lynchburg’s Daily Bread served 47,673 meals in 2015

The Daily Bread in downtown Lynchburg is open 7 days a week, including holidays, and all of the meals are prepared, cooked and served by an incredible group of local volunteers. Our team at Bank of the James is committed to giving back to the community and like to help the Daily Bread by providing extra hands and financial contributions each year. Every other month, 6-8 Bank of the James employees volunteer at the Daily Bread. For the past three years, the Bank has been a proud sponsor of the Spring into Spring 4 miler, which benefits the shelter.

Habitat for Humanity “One World Build” transgresses social barriers and creates new home for local family

In 2015, 360 international student volunteers from local universities worked together to build a new home for a family in Lynchburg. Bank of the James donates funds to Habitat for Humanity each year, which help to provide materials for projects like the One World Build in our community.

Charlottesville Promise Scholarship program has helped 118 students attend college

This scholarship is available to low- and moderate-income graduates of city schools and city employees in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since the program was initiated in 2004, 118 academic scholarships have been granted to students in Virginia. Scholarships encourage students to complete their postsecondary studies and helps to reduce student debt. Bank of the James is proud to sponsor one of these scholarships.

 All nominated nonprofits or community organizations will be put in the running to be awarded a $500 donation from Bank of the James in your honor. We request that all nominees are located in the communities we serve across Virginia.
